Benefits of SICP

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-12 19:54

Can someone tell me why do you people have this cult for SICP?
I mean, what are the benefits of it?
I'm reading it hoping that it'll make me a better programmer. What can I expect?

SICP starts with fairly basic material and goes on to cover a lot of ground in terms of CS topics. Note the "interpretation" in the title... It means a large part of the book is about writing compilers and interpreters. Demystifying compilation is a crucial part of learning to be a good programmer.

There is no cult of SICP. We who have learned from the masters of SICP have come to the realization that satori as achieved when we conjure the spirits of the computer with our spells.
