what language would be best to write a text + turn based strategy game with AI and a basic GUI and some AI that would move troops and supplies around and such, and what are some books you'd recommend for learning that language.
i've got a basic knowledge of java if that helps.

python or lua, since there are frameworks for both (pygame and love2d). actionscript3 is a decent option, since it's not a slow nigger like as2.

you should learn 16-bit assembly and C before moving any further.
it will only make things easier
