SUp. Poorfag here looking to make money. I've been offered a gig from a friend of a friend to build an integrated stock and customer management system for a particular trade shop.

What I'm wondering is; How the hell do I put a price on this? We're talking a customer db, and set of queries, same for stock (of which there is several types) and finally the gui for it all.

This program will effectively be his business.

So what is /progs/ reckoning? How much? Give me an itemised list of what/why i'd be charging so much?

Charge by the hour, give a realistic estimate in advance.

Whats the time expectancy on such a job? What about extras like after-sale support, etc...?

Draw on previous experience to make an estimate. Doesn't sound like it should be more than a few days' work, though.

What about extras like after-sale support, etc...?
That's extra. Though obviously you should provide documentation and things, and include that in the original price.

Do yourself a favor and get a contract drawn up before you take the job, and don't be afraid to go to court if they bail. This is a perfect candidate for a take-and-run screw-over.

Do them a favor and don't accept the position. They need someone experienced, especially for this.
