C or C++?

Sup, /prog/. I currently trying to decide if I should learn C or C++. Both have their pros and cons. On one hand, C is lightweight and compiles fast, making it useful should I decide to develop on the Nintendo DS. On the other hand, trying to use strings in C is retarded. Which does /prog/ think is more useful?

In these days I'm developing some stuff in C++. I never used it seriously before: I'm a C programmer.

My advice is: first of all learn C, than you may learn C++ and realize how complex it may be. ...and what you should avoid!

C++ allows you to develop proects in a more structured way, but remember that it also gives you rope enough to shoot in your own feets.

Im not sure if the differences in speed are that great, atleast not unless you plan on making huge and complex applications.

You could make a translation library to use string methods in c, but im not sure you would gain much from it, since you will still have to deal with strings the c-way inside your program.

Since you are choosing between c and c++ i would say start with c.
In both languages understanding how pointers work are paramount and handeling text in c really helped me to understand them.
