Sussman attains enlightenment

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-04 7:34

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky.

“I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied.

“Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky.

“I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.

Minsky then shut his eyes.

“Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.

“So that the room will be empty.”

At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Hahahhaha oh fuck I enjoyed that way too much. Fuck the internet, I'm out of here.

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-04 9:01

This story is provably a lie.  Sussman did not "attain" Enlightenment, he was born with it.

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-04 10:01

I don't get it.

no, everybody on /prog/ does know everything.
or at least they did until you came

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-04 11:13

That's not what it means.
What the Sussman realized then he was enlightened is that Minsky is a dumbass who things that if he can't see the room, then it must be empty.

No. Please understand this.

Wat? Cool story, I guess.

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-04 13:45

No, Minsky was totally high on various computer scientotic drugs, and he had shared some with his disciple.

You're still not understanding how Sussman's eyes were forever opened and the pathway to computing automata became illuminated.

Nope. You're just a dummy, and dummies shouldn't be programming computers.

That's what you think, but I read Computer Science Made Simple by Jeff Atwood and I know better.

“Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.

“So that the room will be empty.”

At that moment, Sussman closed his eyes.

"Uhh... nothing happened..."

Knight was separating his cars from cudders one day, when Sussman came into the room.

``What are you doing?'', asked confused Sussman.

``I'm caring the List'', answered Knight.

``How many cons have you just left there, for the garbage collector to feed upon?'', questioned Sussman.

Knight stopped caring, and turned to Sussman, a long cudder in his hand. ``The Whole is equal to the sum of its parts''

At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Rimmis ``Matthew'' Stallman was handing out Free GNU CDs one day, when Sussman came upon him.

``Why are you giving away expensive compact discs?'', asked confused Sussman.

``I'm sharing the software'', answered Rimmis.

``This is unscientific and ultimately desctructive'', stated Sussman.

Rimmis stopped handing out CDs, and turned to Sussman. ``Join us now and share the software.  You'll be free, hacker, you'll be free.''

At that moment, Sussman started handing out CDs and the next day joined the FSF.  The rest is history.

This story is inaccurate. As a founding member of the FSF, it would be impossible forTHE SUSSMAN to ``join'' it.

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-06 16:42

So Sussman began working on a program. Not long after, this odd-looking bald guy came over. Sussman figured the guy was going to boot him out, but instead the man sat down, asking, "Hey, what are you doing?" Sussman talked over his program with the man, Marvin Minsky. At one point in the discussion, Sussman told Minsky that he was using a certain randomizing technique in his program because he didn't want the machine to have any preconceived notions. Minsky said, "Well, it has them, it's just that you don't know what they are." It was the most profound thing Gerry Sussman had ever heard. And Minsky continued, telling him that the world is built a certain way, and the most important thing we can do with the world is avoid randomness, and figure out ways by which things can be planned. Wisdom like this has its effect on seventeen-year-old freshmen, and from then on Sussman was hooked.

Rimmis ``Matthew'' Stallman was handing out Free(in reality FSF has no qualms about selling stuff and its specifically allowed by GPL(that why i switched to cc-by-nc-sa license)) GNU CDs(CD weren't used back then, he meant tapes probably) one day, when Sussman came upon him.

``Why are you giving away expensive compact discs?'', asked confused Sussman.

``I'm sharing(GPL promotes sharing the source with the binary, but not discouraging selling it for ptofit) the software'', answered Rimmis.

``This is unscientific and ultimately desctructive(sic)(taken from GJS reply to his fantards on /prog/)'', stated Sussman.

Rimmis stopped handing out CDs, and turned to Sussman. ``Join us now and share the software.  You'll be free, hacker, you'll be free.''(taken from silly FSF promo material: http://www.gnu.org/music/free-software-song.html  )

At that moment, Sussman started handing out CDs and the next day joined the FSF .  The rest is history.

We've arranged a civilization in which most crucial elements profoundly depend on science and technology. We have also arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a prescription for disaster. We might get away with it for awhile, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces.

There are two different types of<a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/">wholesale bridesmaid Dress</a>  you can buy, they are called  the <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/">Bridesmaid Dresses</a> and
 <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/">Bridesmaid Dress</a>
. Each corset has positives and  negatives for women. If you are a women with a different sizes on the <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/">Cheap Bridesmaid Dress</a>  than  the bottom a two piece <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/long-bridesmaid-dresses_c1">Long Bridesmaid Dresses</a> will satisfy your needs. If you do opt for a two  piece <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/short-bridesmaid-dresses_c2">Short Bridesmaid Dresses</a>, you should consider buying different <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/black-bridesmaid-dresses_c3">Black Bridesmaid Dresses</a> as to fit your body  shape. Waist line <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/casual-bridesmaid-dresses_c4">Casual Bridesmaid Dresses</a> is usually found on a two piece corset not on a  one <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/junior-bridesmaid-dresses_c5">Junior Bridesmaid Dresses</a>.If you want an easy managed corset then you should consider the once  <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/modest-bridesmaid-dresses_c6">Modest Bridesmaid Dresses</a>corset which comes with a<a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/simple-bridesmaid-dresses_c7">Simple Bridesmaid Dresses</a> down the back allowing the bride to <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/chiffon-bridesmaid-dresses_c8">Chiffon Bridesmaid Dresses</a> in  and out of her dress as she <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/mermaid-bridesmaid-dresses_c9">Mermaid Bridesmaid Dresses</a>. Also if you are on a budget, a one piece  is cheaper than a two piece <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/wholesale-bridesmaid-dresses_c10">Wholesale Bridesmaid Dresses</a>.Do you want to look modest on your <a href="http://www.wholesale-bridesmaiddress.com/plus-size-bridesmaid-dresses_c11">Plus Size Bridesmaid Dresses</a> wedding  day? How can i find a<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/">wedding dresses</a>? This article will  solve all of your problems, <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/">wedding dress</a> will outline the right cut for you, how the  <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/">discount wedding dresses</a> should look, the color of the <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/beach-wedding-dresses_c1">beach wedding dresse</a> and an alternative option if  nothing fits your<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/vintage-wedding-dresses_c2">vintage wedding dresses </a>style. How hard will it be for me to find a<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/modest-wedding-dresses_c3">modest wedding dresses</a><strong> </strong>? That is all down to you, <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/simple-wedding-dresses_c4">simple wedding dresses</a> can be a very difficult to  find if you do not plan what sort of <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/romantic-wedding-dresses_c5">romantic wedding dresses</a> you are looking for. If you go to  buy a <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/colorful-bridal-gowns_c6">colorful bridal gowns</a> without a plan, certain things might put you off, like the colour,  the length, the <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/plus-size-wedding-dresses_c7">plus size wedding dresses</a> sleeves etc, in the next few paragraphs we<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/short-wedding-dresses_c8"> short wedding dresses</a> will try to help  you. One thing to be extremely careful of, is traditional <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/a-line/princess-wedding-dress_c9">a-line/princess wedding dress</a> can look like  a<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/ball-gown-wedding-dress_c10">ball gown wedding dresses</a>, so be careful when choosing. You may think that finding a<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/empire-waist-wedding-dresses_c11">empire waist wedding dresses</a> would be hard in today’s market due to the of the overwhelming supply of<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/mermaid-wedding-dresses_c12">mermaid wedding dresses</a>. This is a common to think <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/column-wedding-dress_c13">column wedding dress</a> but it is not true,  if you can’t find the<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/strapless-wedding-dresses_c14">strapless wedding dresses</a>you are looking for but you find a  <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/tea-length-wedding-dresses_c15">tea length wedding dresses</a> one which you would like customized, ask the<a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/spring-wedding-dresses_c16"> spring wedding dresses</a> tailor and see if s/he  can do <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/summer-wedding-dresses_c17">summer wedding dresses</a> for you. The reason why I say, find a strapless gown because <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/fall-wedding-dresses_c18">fall wedding dresses</a> is  allot easier to alter then taking the sleeves off a sleeved <a href="http://www.bridal-weddingdresses.com/winter-wedding-dresses_c19">winter wedding dresses</a>. </p>
