RPC via telephone

i want to be able to send commands to my computer via a telephone call.  how do i do this?

example:
*dial into computer*
PC: press 1 to defrag, press 2 to run database scripts, press 3 to FORMAT HARD DRIVE.

You may need some kind of CSTA-enabled automated attendant, that provides the digits tones over CSTA. Not all telephone systems support this, but it's possible the Siemens HiPath does.

you could probably write a service that translates certain values (corresponding to the keys' tones) to certain commands and then runs them through the shell. i'm not sure how you could go about doing that though since normal phones only work at the physical layer of the OSI model and make use of neither IP addresses nor TCP/UDP ports.

You could warp back in time 20 years and use an acoustic coupler.

Using asterisk you pass control of a phone call over to an agi script.  All you have to do is write the plumbing between the numbers input and firing off the command.
