JAVA

I love java. Its the language I learned on, and I've never strayed from it since. Why does no one seem to like it here?

I prefer the Algorithmic Language Scheme.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-09 20:52

ActionScript 2.0 for the win, since I can actually do something with it.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-09 21:49

I prefer the homosexual S&M-oriented language FIOC.

How can you speak about the goodness or badness of a certain language if it's the only one you know?

The Java community tells me that Java is used everywhere: embedded controllers, in enterprise, desktop applications, web applications etc. That's how good it is

You know what else are?  C, Python, and Lisp.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-10 0:58

JAVA struck me as a bit more decipherable than C.

of course, having to state

public void ...(){}

for many of my functions/methods was a pain in the ass.

[I learned JAVA as part of a computer science class. at least I understand the theory; the code itself can elude me at times, leading to some horribly inefficient code]

Java is pretty good.  Frankly I'd kill to have eclipse's auto-completion in the enterprisey nix/c/c++ environment I'm in now.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-10 20:38

OP: I like Java, I don't use it much anymore though.

BUT HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT BECOMING A SATORI PROGRAMMER

Your 10 point scale doesn't make sense because my comment was 100% serious.  Its an advanced form of meta-trolling, don't worry, you'll get there someday.

You should have just said "-0.1"

PHP would like a word with you.

Java is great.

You can use Eclipse with Sepples, actually.

And since you can use it with Sepples, I assume you can use it with See.

And in fact, our hypothetical Blub programmer wouldn't use either of them. Of course he wouldn't program in machine language. That's what compilers are for. And as for Cobol, he doesn't know how anyone can get anything done with it. It doesn't even have x (Blub feature of your choice).

As long as our hypothetical Blub programmer is looking down the power continuum, he knows he's looking down. Languages less powerful than Blub are obviously less powerful, because they're missing some feature he's used to. But when our hypothetical Blub programmer looks in the other direction, up the power continuum, he doesn't realize he's looking up. What he sees are merely weird languages. He probably considers them about equivalent in power to Blub, but with all this other hairy stuff thrown in as well.

THIS! Is why JAVA is the epix!

Graphics bufferGraphics;
Image img = null;

public void init() {

img = createImage(740, 413);
bufferGraphics = offscreen.getGraphics();
}

public void paint(Graphics g){

bufferGraphics.clearRect(0,0,dim.width, dim.height);
for(i = 0; i < rofl; i++){
Image lolpicz = null;
lolpicz = getImage(getDocumentBase(), lolz[i]);
bufferGraphics.drawImage(img, i*10, i*10, this);
}
g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, this);
}

Go JAVA go! All the other languages can suck it!

public void update(Graphics g)

This claim about memorizing API's is retarded and shows how naive you are.  Auto-completion is awesome because it makes dealing with gi-fucking-normous poorly documented(if at all) enterprise-specific api's way fucking easier.  Good day sir.
