freeBASIC

Hello /prog/. What are your thoughts of freeBASIC?

PHP is better.

With its extensions to the Basic language it neatly combines the worst aspects of C and Basic. Anyone who'd seriously consider using this for a non-legacy project ought to be shot.
It's useful if you need to run your QuickBasic programs on a modern computer, I suppose.
Though making the compiler self hosting was IMO kind of oh, God, why would you do that!??!??111

Learn C++ as first language. Basic only teaches you bad habits. Trust me, I went down that path.

It's worth it to learn C++, its harder but it will help you in the long run if you stick with it and work hard.

C++ is the only practical AND efficient language. sorry. Other langs might be practical or effcient but nothing else is as high up in both categories as C++.

C is higher on both counts, coding in idiomatic C++ is less efficient and the hoops Sepples makes you jump through for some of it's features aren't worth it

Two important things that C++ has and C hasn't (namespaces and templates) are PITA to use.
