Depends on your level or ability.
Php/Mysql is ideal for beginners due to it's forgiving learning curve and ability to fudge everything with multiple query runs.
PERL is the best for advanced - if you know what you're doing - it is fuckwin.
Ruby/Rails is a lovely middle ground - Rails is a godsend for rapidly prototyping applications and then building around a structure as opposed to building and coding every last fucking thing from scratch.
Java sucks balls - mostly due to the JVM. Loading times are not your friend.
ASP? i dont know. .NET is balls for the most part.
AJAX is a nice other route to go down. Instant browser compatability(no install necessary!) and the ability to make rather fast-loading and dynamic sites is quite cool.

coldFusion - If you like hard dicks in your asshole.
Ruby - Slow, limited.
Python - Not too bad.
perl - how long is your neck beard?
ASP.Net - Is not a fucking language. But C#/VB.Net are the best languages and ASP.Net is the best web dev framework. You can use Python with it to if you want.
You can also automatically convert that lesser shit to .Net. For example, faggy Java code can be improved by automatic converstion to .Net. Shit headed PHP code can be compiled to run on ASP.Net.

Congratulations, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. back to /pr/ please

ASP.NET - Runs on top of the .NET CLR, so very fast. The standard library feels poorly put together though. Still, allows for very rapid prototyping if using the standard WebForms interface. Once you get used to it, MVC is a dream.
PHP - Easy for beginners to pick up, but the overall design is technically poor, but it wasn't designed for programmers at all.
ColdFusion - Don't know much about this one, MySpace was originally written in ColdFusion though, then again MySpace is shit, so who knows.
JAVA - tbh, it's a very powerful language, but the code is just overly verbose.
Ruby - A very powerful language, that actually inherits some really cool features from LISP. Is also a fully OO language. But not as quick as some of the other solutions out there(and the Rails framework is a lumbering hulk, which only further compounds this issue.)
Python - Damn sexy language, but the white space might throw you off.
Perl - Cool language, you can do slick things in it, but it seems like most of the remaining Perlers spend all day 'golfing' and writing obfuscated code?
PHP is the best language for real-world websites. It is used by high-profile companies and highly Alexa-ranked sites such as Wikipedia, Wordpress, and 4chan. Other languages aren't agile enough and can't scale.

If you're considering Ruby, take a look at the Merb framework. They're merging with Rails in Rails 3, but for now, it's my favorite web application framework. It doesn't have nearly the same user base as something like Rails or Django, but the documentation is very good. It's like a modularized Rails, and it's incredibly fast.

Are you faggots SERIOUSLY considering ASP.NET?
May I remind you UNIX runs web servers? And may I also remind you that ASP.NET is a shitty language.
I will only recommend PHP(+ CakePHP/Zend Framework)/RoR. Anything else is shitty ricer/neckbeard shit.
Also AJAX is as much as a programming language as HTML.
Fucking use Perl, NO EXCEPTIONS! PHP is only good if you're an experienced programmer because the way PHP is it allows sloppy programming from newbies by design. If you're worried about "neckbeard" there's a device called an electric shaver, it is good use it!
When it come's to web development, there is only one Leah Culver approved solution FIOC and Django

ASP.NET is shit because everyone here are broke ass niggers who can't afford Visual Studio and are too lazy to pirate it.
And also, we're too busy achieving Satori of course.
