I'm bored

Expert /prog/rammers,

The weekend just began and I've got nothing to do. What should I code, and in which language?

Here's the languages I know:
C,
C++,
Common Lisp,
Perl,
Ruby,
and then some Python, Haskell, Java, and x86 Assembly.

Read SICP (seriously) and learn Scheme. Then code some Factorial and Fib Programs ;-)

1. Code a new renameable virus similar to the 4chan.js Javascript that bypasses the malicious code detection scheme moot implemented, preferably by encryption or obfuscation.
2. Post it on /b/ embedded in an image.
3. Make instructions to rename the image to the embedded virus dot extension, and then to open said file.
4. ?????
5. Shitstorm.

How it works: Well, he set up a simple scanner that looks for specific flags inside of the image files uploaded onto 4chan. If the image/virus file contains unencrypted, plain text codes such as those used in the 4chan.js script, it will deny the post and autoban you for 7 days.

How I found out: I tried posting the 4chan.gif picture without the words that are usually posted with it (open file, shit brix, etc.), assuming that the ban was based on a wordfilter, and it came up with the deny saying that it detected 'possible malicious code in the image' and banned me.

How to bypass: Obfuscate code that you append to the image you want to post, that way the shitstorm works and lasts for a bit before mods make wordfilter bans of your 'instructions.'

Some of the older code and strains: Written in Javascript and copied to this site: http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/4chan.js

I think that covered everything. Also, I don't know any programming languages myself, trying to teach myself regular Java, but have always been fascinated with viral programs.

Use Common Lisp to code whatever you want. Maek gaem? Or you could use C to write a simple standalone mixer for Jack. That could be useful.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-03 16:22

OP here, thanks for the replies.

I have read some parts of SICP, and it was my intention to read the whole book some day.
OTOH, I don't really think I would benefit much from learning Scheme. I have looked into it before too, but I already know CL and it feels a lot more natural for me.

>>3
I'm a Lunix/BSDfag and don't have much knowledge about viruses and/or Windows programming. Neither do I have a Windows box nearby to test the virus if I ever made one. Also, lol Javascript.

>>4
I'd prefer something that has even a small chance of actually working some day.

>>7
CL is maybe my favorite language, and for the last few hours I've actually been fiddling around with the idea of some kind of IRC bot written in CL. cl-irc's documentation just sucks huge balls.

As for your second suggestion.. I don't use Jack myself, so I wouldn't have too much motivation to write a mixer for it.

Funny that you mention it now though, earlier this week I wrote a standalone GTK+ interface to amixer with Python and PyGTK because I wasn't able to find any decent amixer alternatives other than alsamixer.

Write a FIOC obfuscater

You don't like gnome-alsamixer or xfce4-mixer? I don't really like them either.

It's not that I don't like them, I just don't want to install half of Gnome or Xfce to get them.

FIOC is already obfuscated. why not write a deobfuscater instead?

port factor or minix 3 to ARM.

I'm pretty much free too, except for two simple jobs I have to finish in a week.  Do you want to cooperate?

Cool, so that's why one of my images randomly got me banned.

While we're sharing hardcore nuggets of knowledge, here's one that may already be fairly obvious:

There are no mods. Just use proxies to spam "illegal content" reports on threads and watch them 404 automatically. I moderate /b/ all the time like this.

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-02 15:14

Don't encourage proxy use.

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-03 1:50

What sorts of threads do you do this to, generally?  It's hard to imagine that any individual thread could diminish the quality of /b/ by any appreciable amount, given how terrible all the other threads are at any given time.

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-03 7:36

why not?

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-03 14:19

You do know that it is against the rules to use proxies on 4chan, right? I know this may sound pathetic to you, but I respect the rules and the moderators who enforce them, (whenever they can) otherwise 4chan would not have survived this long.

Once again, please don't encourage proxy use.

I was tempted to reply with ``No, it isn't.'' for a second, but if I did, I most likely would have been trolled. Thus I will refrain from leaving any comment.

I support proxy use in the case of things like routing around Internet censorship imposed by Internet Service Providers and things of that nature. Unfortunately many are abused by people with no hobbies and too much time on their hands.

Split infinitives are frequently poor style, but they are not strictly bad grammar. [1]
