I have read some parts of SICP, and it was my intention to read the whole book some day.
OTOH, I don't really think I would benefit much from learning Scheme. I have looked into it before too, but I already know CL and it feels a lot more natural for me.

I'm a Lunix/BSDfag and don't have much knowledge about viruses and/or Windows programming. Neither do I have a Windows box nearby to test the virus if I ever made one. Also, lol Javascript.

I'd prefer something that has even a small chance of actually working some day.

CL is maybe my favorite language, and for the last few hours I've actually been fiddling around with the idea of some kind of IRC bot written in CL. cl-irc's documentation just sucks huge balls.
As for your second suggestion.. I don't use Jack myself, so I wouldn't have too much motivation to write a mixer for it.
Funny that you mention it now though, earlier this week I wrote a standalone GTK+ interface to amixer with Python and PyGTK because I wasn't able to find any decent amixer alternatives other than alsamixer.
