Caret in argument list c++

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-31 6:41

So I found this in the MSDN libs:

void Form1_KeyPress(Object^ sender, KeyPressEventArgs^ e)

what do the carets mean in an argument list? Is it some sort of explicit pass-by-value? I've never seen it before.

Did some looking around, it seems to be some sort of managed pointer declaration. Visual C++ makes me sad.

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-31 8:39

CLI/C++ sucks. .NET is equally as shitty, write your program in pure C++.

The problem is making a Windows program. The windows API is painfully unwieldy and I need an easier interface to it. I'm open to suggestions if there's an easier way.

use factor. it will make you write better code.
or use c#. it's got lots of nice things like lambdas and generators and it'll run almost anywhere. and .net is a lot better than win32.

The problem is making a Windows program.
And the solution is to not make a Windows program.

Listen to this Anon. Make a cross-platform one with a GUI toolkit or write in C# if you don't care.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-01 8:56

It seems that the obvious answer to this thread would be: Use Java!

It is both cross-platform and comes with several fast and easy-to-use GUI toolkits.

Incidentally, sea octothorpe is more cross-platform than Java, not to mention GUI toolkits.

I believe I'm being TROLL'd...

We are talking about writing a Sepples GUI application.
Not an application on a cross-platform platform.

Well, your in a sense, if you define [i]``Trolling''[i] as ``Confronting people with unpleasant and unexpected truths''. However it is not a misinformation, you can go and compare Java™ supported platforms with Mono supported platforms and see for you'reself. Obviously you should count not ENTERPRISE unixen like iServer, Solaris and so on, but hardware platforms.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-01 16:20

Oh fuck, I meant ``Trolling'' and iSeries, obviously.

use factor. it will make you write better code.
How? :o

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-01 17:37

You'll have to think in order to write something simple.

This is the only reason I learned Java

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-01 18:01

So Factor is like Assembly, but faggy and surrounded by hype?

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-01 18:12

>>18
more like scheme. but unlike scheme, you can do useful things with it. like implementing a smalltalk interpreter.

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-01 18:19

What the fuck is factor and why do I keep hearing about it?

When I was your age, we wrote GUIs by drawing each pixel ourselves. You will use the Win32 API and like it.

No, because they stay simple when written.

the point is that mdsn sucks
