you would choose if they all were equally fast?

Python, duh.  It does all the work for you, especially if it's fast as c.

Ruby, duh.  It does all the work for you, especially if it's fast as c.

Haskell. Oh wait, it's already as fast as C.

C would actually be kind of nice if it had some of the features ML had in the mid-1970s.

Except not.

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-24 16:36

You know, I think I'd continue to use different languages based on how well they fit the problem at hand, just as I do now.

Haskell is as fast as C, as long as you don't use the IO monad.

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-24 19:23

I also did some tight-loop testing in Java vs C (incrementing a number 2^32 times and such basic things) and they both came out equally fast.

But C doesn't have the IO monad

Lisp is already as fast as C

Haskell can be faster than C in some situations.

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-08 10:22

But never as fast as Lisp.

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-08 16:05

I will never need a language other than C.

Python

only if the haskell is written by a lispfag, since lispfags are incapable of understanding basic category theory and lambda calculus.

I don't believe that a typical LIPSer is homosexual.

why else would they use a language that looks like ass?

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-08 17:08

Well, I enjoy (female) ass like any other man, and I am not gay.

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-08 17:08

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, besides the homoiconicity of lisp is a really useful feature.

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-08 17:17

It only looks like ass since you don't know how to read it.
Most Lisp programmers look at a piece of code and are able to understand its structure and purpose, they don't notice parens and what appears to you as weird indentation is actually a very import visual cue which explains the structure of the code.
