I actually have a serious question directed toward Xarn. I'm reading his blog, and I'm just amazed at how much he knows. He really is quite intelligent. I'm just wondering how  I can be like Xarn, should I read more or what? I generally find I don't have much time, or I might start reading an article and get bored midway through.

You should do more hard thinking, and not ever stop. You see, people like Xarn start out early in life with a tremendous curiosity, which results in routinely exercising intellectual faculties of thought such as comprehension, memory, and creativity, among other things. Having become bored with the local aspects of their environment, they naturally extend their scope of thought to encompass broader concepts. This leads to autodidactic forms of study on academic subjects which expand not only in space but in time as well. It is this basis for intellectual vigor which fuels the minds of Xarns everywhere.

There isn't any real Xarn; that's just one of the many successful memes that I've invented.

Most programmers are liberal, so this is not really all that surprising.

The thing that always surprises me is just how many transgender programmers there are[1]

Most educated people of any kind are progressive. Social democrats aren't liberals, though.

A meaningless statement. "Progressive" is ill-defined.
