The thing I really like about Gopher is it has structure. It does not try to control my browser to do crazy things, and it just gets right down to what really matters--the content. Does this mean that I dislike the WWW? Not at all, quite the opposite in fact. I believe that Gopher and the WWW can co-exist and should complement each other.
Only people who think it's some sort of SECRET INTERNET use it.
That is silly. Gopher is simply a protocol, just like WWW. (http://) Do some people who happen to stumble upon it think it is a SECRET INTERNET? Possibly. The same logic could be applied to those who use BitTorrent, Gnutella, USENET, etc. Which would be silly as well.
Some have setup servers simply to demonstrate that Gopher can be useful. And browsing about through Gopherspace, I've found some interesting things on there.
