really old games

So, I have some really old (DOS?) games.
Eg Castle of Dr Brain/Super Solvers Treasure Mountain.

Problem: they use some default noise generator inside my computer, instead of my speakers -> I can't control the volume; it's loud as hell.

I can mute all the sounds and stuff in windows, but the game won't let me change its intrinsic volume.

Thanks if anybody here has some ideas.

open up the case and add a volume control.

correct, you can't control the volume; or atleast i've never seen it done.
you might be able to get the sound to work the way you want with DOSBox

Are you GAY?
Are you a NIGGER?
Are you a GAY NIGGER?

If you answered "Yes" to all of the above questions, then GNAA (GAY NIGGER ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) might be exactly what you've been looking for!
