Windows as a router

Hello. How do I use windows as a (not NAT, but a real) router for my Enterprise network? Everyone must be doing it since windows has 95% market share.

But how do I filter and shape traffic?

you buy a fucking program, was that the point of this thread? to accentuate the fact that all traffic shaping programs for linsux and bsd are free while on windows they have to be bought

if that is the case then you my good sir have no life and need to be replaced on this earth because windows in itself is not free, it costs money

if you want a higher learning curve and good stable free software to do anything you want with enterprise networks then use free unix based systems

if you want a fancy desktop with a trash bin then use microsoft

which program though? I need to be able to detect bittorrent and irc traffic masquerading as http. please advise.

Thank you for your response; however, Traffic Shaper XP seems to be mostly for throttling and only offers filtering/shaping based TCP/IP headers (as opposed to actual content of the packets). Please advise.

Isn't inspecting each packet on router wasting alot of bandwidth/CPU time?
if you want deep packet inspection you should use some standalone internet appliance.

Not if it's a low-bandwidth consumer link. Then even the copyins/copyouts won't matter.
