So I have some self-taught programming ability in Seeples, Perl and BBCODE. I've also had some actual team-based work experience in Python (django) and Javascript creating ENTERPRISE WEB SOLUTIONS last year. And then I moved away and lost my job.

But I want to start actually making a bit of part time cash doing programming work. So I ask you, /prog/, how did you break into the IT industry? And what skills should I pick up to give me a better chance?

I recommend reading ``Beating the Averages'' by Mr. Paul Graham.  It is a thoroughly enlightening read that will surely help you make big wads of cash.
