1. check to make sure the MD5 and SHA256 checksums match the iso files you downloaded (CHECKSUM.MD5 and CHECKSUM.SHA256 in the directory you downloaded the iso from)
2. if they match, check to make sure the checksums match the disk you burned

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Actually, the ISO is fine, the problem message I'm getting, just before sysinstall begins, is
"acd0: FAILURE - READ_BIG HARDWARE ERROR asc=0x08 ascq=0x03" and it fails as soon as I actually begin the install process (after setting partitions)
I'm currently googling for solutions, I'll keep you posted

i've gotten similar errors from a bad disk before, check the disk to make sure it matches and if it doesn't try burning it again, and check to make sure you have a good disk. if the disk is fine, something is probably wrong with the drive.

I ended up running the installer in Safe Mode, which seems to fix the problem. Something to do with my CD/DVD drive being detected as a scsi device, which was causing all sorts of problems.

Problem was with lousy written hardware detection codes by the developers of FreeBSD ;)

Okay, so I've installed FreeBSD, but I can only logon onto the shell. How do I install a GUI window manager?

I was messing around, and I logged in as root and tried to do the infamous rm -rf / I've seen around here.
It didn't work though, it said I couldn't remove /
So I then cd'd into / and did rm -rf *
It started doing something then said /dev/... was busy.
Now when I try to use rm or ls I get command not found errors.
