I disagree about multimedia keys:
It's actually useful to have a set of keys that you can map to whatever you want without risking conflicts with applications.
For keyboards without them, there's usually a few keys that aren't used by anything except MS Windows, so they can be used as modifiers to use any other key in three more ways. Still, it's nicer to be able to lower the volume of your Touhou remixes with a single key press, avoiding the EMACS pinky.
