Saving the earth

Each time you visit a web 2.0 page, AJAX is installed again, because it's "easier" for programmers.
And that's just an example of the colossal waste that happens everyday because lazy programmers do what is programmer-friendly rather than what is eco-friendly.

That reminds me, I wonder how much power could be saved if all software was written to be as efficient as possible. Then we could have slower processors do the same amount of work, while consuming considerably less power.
