Activities during programming

Name: Anonymous 2008-09-24 21:44

Programming sessions can be more enjoyable when you have something else to do while programming.  Eating snacks and meals are a favorite past time, as is coding to music.  Some people even like to code while watching movies or even while browsing the net.

What does /prog/ like to do while coding?

For me, browsing nico douga or just coding to music is fine.

Enjoy your toy projects. I bet you listen to Infected Mushroom while programming in Java.

You can't call yourself a programmer if you're one of those people who hunts and pecks with one finger on one hand.

Listening to the tortured wails of musical instruments, recorded and pasted over each other, often with terrible screeching and howling (sometimes uttering semi-comprehensible noises, as if speaking in human tongue) would interfere with my genius. Likewise, so would "browsing" the "internet".

I need complete silence when I'm coding.

I don't care about light, but I'm unable to listen to music or watch movies while I'm coding.

Like that guy who got his pots messed up?

I mostly listen to music. I'm not easily distracted while coding, but reading is another thing. Some guy turns TV on in the apartment above, and there's no way that I'll get past that page in the nearest hour.

If I'm at home coding something for myself for fun I watch some tv-series at my other screen. I take my time, relax and slowly create the structure of the program.
At work I do not allow myself distractions, of course, except for workrelated conversation with other programmers.
