1. Write an IRC bot in your chosen language using raw sockets, no external IRC libraries.

Java has stuff for this. Not going to reinvent the wheel.

I don't understand this obsession /prog/ has with writing IRC-related software. So far we've had two ircds, three or four challenges to write an ircd, one challenge to write an IRC client, three IRC bots, and now a challenge to write another bot.

IRC-related software is what is wrong with IRC.

connection = ConnectionFactoryFactory.GetIrcFactory.GetNewConnection("/prog/");
message = MessageFactoryFactory.GetMessageFactory("HAX MY ANUS, >>3").CreateMessage();
connection.GetInputChannel().SendMessage(message);

ITT we waste our time programming IRC bots so OP won't have to move his lazy fingers.

You guys really need to step into the future. Jabber, the communication protocol, is the way of the future.

I hate xml with passion.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 10:06

I live Java. Java has XML interpreter for easy of use.

heres my bot
#!/bin/sh
irssi

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 10:09

>>11
Good luck even finding that in the standard libraries.

Then that's your own failing. Hope you enjoy your YAML.

It's either IRC-related or Anonix-related.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 11:16

Anonix-related software is what is wrong with Anonix.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 11:41

Anonix is what is wrong with Anonix.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 12:16

I'll write an IRC bot. I sure as hell won't release it into the public domain. That shit'll be GPLv3, for maximum freedom.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 12:49

I'll write an IRC bot. I sure as hell won't release it into the public domain. That shit'll be 3-clause BSD, for maximum freedom.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 14:35

>>19
That's better.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 15:02

I'll write an IRC bot. I sure as hell won't release it into the public domain. That shit'll be closed source, for maximum binary blob.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 15:45

I'll have the Anonix project write an IRC bot for me. I sure as hell won't be contributing myself. That shit'll be anonymous, for minimal bloat.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 19:14

I'll write an IRC bot. It'll be public domain, although I'll write it in assembler and strip the comments, so it might as well be a binary blob.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 19:42

I'll write an IRC bot. It'll be public domain, although I'll write it in Haskell and use a bunch of Nomads, so it might as well be encrypted.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 19:50

>>24
That says more about you than about Haskell.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 20:59

I'll write an IRC bot. It'll be public domain, although I'll write it in Perl and... just that, so it might as well be line noise.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 21:06

I'll write an IRC bot. It'll be over 9000 lines of brainfuck, as soon as they implement sockets in that language.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-23 21:33

I'll write an IRC bot. It'll be in Python, and it'll consist of a single import statement.

Name: Anonymous 2009-01-19 20:36

>>28
I'll write a Python joke. It'll be stolen from XKCD, and even less funny than the original.
