Woe is Me

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 0:29

I can't do the exercises in Chapter 1.

I have failed.

I will not kill myself with fire.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 1:22

i love you...

Well then, what method of killing yourself would you prefer?

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 11:51

(call-with-current-continuation kill-self)

Just in case reincarnation exists.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 15:46

>>4
since when the fuck does kill-self take a continuation? idiot.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 16:01

Continuations are fun.

Proceeds with continuation in case of undead, reincarnation, or Jebus. Has side-effects if undead.

OMG OPTIMIZED

I feel like I've failed the Sussman and the Abelson. I wanted so much to be an expert programmer, but my inability to create the beautiful black-box abstractions has left me crippled and worth nothing more than Samir from India who writes C# for $0.15/line.

I am so distraught I have intentionally failed to BBCode properly.

See my shame, /prog/! Would that I had never touched a computer than known the disappointment of failing SICP.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 22:29

I barely passed my assembly class.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-21 22:46

I suck at algorithms

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 11:38

I'm thinking of switchin to Ubuntu because I'm too lazy to look for and read confuguration manuals or tutorials.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 12:09

I am actually dumb but people think I am smart.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 12:28

I call java C# code with continueation concurrently in my assembly class.

:(

I'm not actually a programmer, I just browse here. Did that make sense?

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 12:32

I rule.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 13:48

I actually have more than two problems.

It made more sense than anything posted here in the last 3 months.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 13:54

I own a copy of Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software.

Haha, me too. I'd never admit it though. Watch me disappear into the anonymous mass again.

I own a copy of Head First Design Patterns. :(

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 15:37

I own a copy of GEOS Inside and Out.

I found it incredibly boring and couldn't bring myself to read it.  Might as well have burnt the money.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 15:50

Every semester when I have to buy textbooks for school, I buy 5 copies of SICP instead. I'm up to 30 copies of SICP stacked on my shelf. When I'm really lonely i like to pile them all around me and fall asleep, letting the Sussman protect me.

You can still burn the book.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 15:56

>>22
Seconded. It's in a box somewhere in the cellar.

I'm affraid the fumes of shittiness will be lethal.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 16:01

I'm surrounded by EXPERT PROGRAMMERS who believe they are superior because of their knowledge of ENTERPRISE.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 17:40

I am jealous.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 18:31

>>27
Is that your way of saying I will, along with my job?

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 19:21

I don't have any intention of ever reading SICP.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 20:21

I dropped out of college (Computer Science) years ago, have never had a job, and have never published anything remotely interesting.  Sometimes I write patches for open-source projects, but I don't submit them.  I still consider myself a programmer.

How do you make a living?

Terrible!

I've had a job for years, doing PHP and Python (I only had to do Java for 4 days, and I'm getting Python pushed into the organization, yay). I write patches for a few free software projects (C and Python), but don't submit them because they wouldn't get accepted (I make them work my way, after already knowing they don't like this way from talking in the development newsgroups). I still consider myself an EXPERT PROGRAMMER.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 21:22

I don't know the BBCode for the EXPERT PROGRAMMER meme.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 21:46

I apply B, I, U and O in any order, then output EXPERT PROGRAMMER, then apply /B, /I, /U and /O in opposite order. For example, quoting the program:

'[\[B]\[I]\[U]\[O]EXPERT PROGRAMMER\[/O]\[/U]\[/I]\[/B]]

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 21:47

>>38
Oops, remove the backslashes. I thought this BBCode interpreter still required them, I'm glad quote works. I guess I can start using [quote ...] now.

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-22 21:53

>>38
Now I can do the EXPERT PROGRAMMER meme, but actually I'm a NOVICE INFORMATION SYSTEMS REQUIREMENTS ANALYST, and I'm jealous of the developers who I work with.
