Computer Science vs. Computer Engineering

Name: Anonymous 2008-08-02 13:07

I'll assume most of you programmers have a CS degree. However computer engineering is starting to interest me more, mainly because I hear engineers earn way more. In the course catalog both degree programs share a lot of classes, with CS focusing more on languages and CE more on hardware. I'd like to code, but I'd like a good salary too. Also (dare I ask), where does the title "software engineer" fit under, CS or CE?

OMG.  Seriously.  Wow.

I pity your ignorance, but for some reason my pity grows beyond the basic "fuck you newbie!", so I'll give you some real answers:

Computer Engineering - does NOT focus on software, designs hardware & uses HDLs.  You know, engineering actual computers.

Computer Science - theoretically about the abstract bullshite of how computers deal with information and solving problems.  You know, science about computing (not computers).

Software Engineering - theoretically about how to get abstract bullshite into real bullshite with actual people and systems.  You know, engineering actual software.

If your only criteria for which field of study you go into is the paycheck amount, then GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY INDUSTRY YOU MOTHERFUCKING BRAINLESS PARASITE!  GO DIE LIKE THE SUBHUMAN LIFE FORM YOU ARE!
