As far as the n00b is concerned, most any lisp compiler will work like an interpreter. Once they figure out they are using a compiler they will be exalted.

I am >>3, and I use emacs + slime + [ACL | CLISP] (depending on platform (why use SBCL when we have a linux Allegro license?)) every day.
I've done Eclipse with all sorts of languages, Visual Studio since idunno v3 or something up to .Net shit, etc etc.
Emacs + Slime + (insert lisp here) is shit. Of course, I'm not making comparisons to the others.
