I don't understand the sentiment of your post. To work in CS (95% male sociotards) with everyone in work and community worshipping her, would give her high self-esteem and make her feel good about herself, on the other hand, the need to get attention to feel good about yourself probably shows low self-esteem.
Judging by the scarring on her face, she probably had acne as a teenager and was probably chubby, thus encouraging a geeky personality, and, as happens quite a lot (annoyingly, after you rejected them in high school), became quite attractive as an adult.
