hai /g/ i come to you in search for advice

for my robotics class i have to build a robot arm that receives an input from a device that allows the user to write or draw something so that the robot arm draws the same thing at at distance. i'm already building a SCARA type arm but its the input part and its programming that scares the hell out of me... so... any suggestions on what input device/software i could use?

tl;dr i hate robots
