Holy quad shitvermins, a decent discussion albeit not related to programming.

I don't think names are a good thing. Their only use is vanity/pride/self-image in this kind of board.
Well, yeah. Names give power to trolls. Look at RedCream and Wokon for example.
Thought, I do enjoy some posts from RedCream, Wokon was just that: A faggot. Now he's some sort of meme, occasionally posts with a tripcode and says something really retraded.
The problem is, the posters that claim to be Wokon are not really Wokon, but attention-seeking faggots.
Think of them like the doujin or CP posters on /b/. It's just an easy way to attract posters.

But honestly, I think we just shouldn't care as long as there are still the so called quality posters lurking and posting, and decent discussions, of course.

One does not necessarily want to sage a thread just because he wants to be anonymous.
No, even with the ID you are still anonymous, however identifiable and unique.
Why one wouldn't want to be identified in a thread?
The only reason I can think of is trolling or forcing opinions, memes and other things.
With IDs, it's a lot easier to spot trolls.
