Don't know what ido-mode is, but vim obviously has buffers.

Check question 15.

If your fingers hurt, I suggest a visit to your doctor as well as changing workplace.

I've actually ordered a good keyboard. My membrane keyboard has had it and I use it some 12 hours a day doing my day-to-day computer stuff. I've ordered a Model M with buckling spring keys. Very good for the fingers, they are.

...I'll check that vim link.

Here is an example of ido-mode:

It updates as you type. To switch to the `ghci' buffer I would press C-x b RET. To switch to the `config.pl' buffer, I would type C-x b con RET. You get the idea.

Have you thought that maybe you're typing wrong? Are you one of those people who types C-f with one hand and forgets to use the mouse?

Name: Anonymous 2008-04-17 21:50

forgets to use the mouse
Fail.

Well, I don't use the mouse with Emacs, I use it from the console. I use opposite hands for key combinations. I.e. for C-x I use left Ctrl. I think it's a combination of typing all day, a crappy old membrane keyboard, and that I probably do type incorrectly. I never learned to touch type properly. I can type at 90wpm but my finger positioning is not correct. I think I'll spend some time learning to touch type properly... I've been putting it off until my new keyboard arrives... My fingers have only started to hurt in the past few months which is why I'm questioning Emacs and my keyboard. Well, I'll find some info. about touch typing and learn.
