New to C++

Name: Anonymous 2008-03-30 5:17

So freshmen year I had to take a bunch of java classes.
Now we are being required to use C++ in a Data Structures course.

I need some useful websites for learning C++ or good book recommendations.

I once found a really good website that was called something like teach yourself c++ in 24 hours and was broken down hour by hour into diferent concepts, but when I google that, all I find is books called that.

K&R.  Just use C instead, there's nothing Sepples offers over C for a data structures course.

well I'm still a moron when it comes to the technical talk, will pretty much any code I find in a C resource be useable in c++ in Visual Studio 2005?

Just get it over with and kill yourself. Here, I'll give you a NULL pointer to do it. That's right. Dereference it. I fucking dare you.

Also raptor jesus christ go to fucking lectures and read the goddamn book (alternatively: SICP) and stop fucking us around with your pitiful could-be-trolling. Because I've fucking had enough of your bullshit. It just isn't funny anymore. What would your mother think if she found out?

hey faggot, in the lectures he doesn't talk about how to program in c++, he just lectures on the concepts of data structures, like stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, etc. These I understand jut fine, often better than some of the mouth breather in the class.

He spent the first 2 days of class giving us an idea of how to program in C++, and now we are left to fend on our own for figuring the rest of it out.

why programming 115 and 120 are taught in Java, and then they expect us to just learn c++ for the next course is retarded IMO.

No Anonymous, you are the retarded.

And the Anonymous was the faggots.

Koenig & Moo's Accelerated C++ is about the only beginner's book I'd recommend.

Read the SICP tutorial linked in the sticky.

class is so much better than struct you faggot.

I second this recommendation, though the ``Build An Application To Grade Students'' assignments get really repetitive after the first few times, and they don't fucking let off them for the entire book. Despite that, it's an excellently fulfilling, concise introduction to most of the major concepts of the C++ programming language.

After that, I'd recommend picking up a copy of Alexandrescu's Modern C++ Design, which is essentially "The Beginner's Guide to Template Metaprogramming." Because access to a pure functional language is the only reason you'd ever want to learn Sepples.

C++ is no longer relevant.

C++ hasn't been relevant since C99, YHBT.
