I just found out in /comp/ that moot-sama has added two new boards in addition to the other crappy boards recently added. One is completely uninteresting, and the other as well... but there is something about the second board: 12. ҉I have a morning ritual that I need to share. I call it 'the sussman'. First I crouch down in the shower in the classic 'I put on my robe and wizard hat' pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Sussman or Abelson and I start to hum the SICP theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless EXPERT PROGRAMMER. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my sussman leg. It ruins the fantasy.
In the days when Sussman was a novice Minsky once came to him as he sat
hacking at the PDP-6.
"What are you doing?", asked Minsky.
I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe."
"Why is the net wired randomly?", inquired Minsky.
"I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play".
At this Minsky shut his eyes, and Sussman asked his teacher "Why do you
close your eyes?"
"So that the room will be empty."
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
