So… Does /prog/ use Eclipse for developing software?

I don't. Do you?

Most certainly not.
It's a Java IDE that's bigger than the Java runtime environment by a factor of four. Seriously.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-19 18:07

No.

No.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-19 19:59

I sure do.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-19 22:26

oh my god they make us use it at work

I write fucking j2ee shit with it... and php... god I hate it, I hat it so much...

its so huge, and so bloated, and its actually made me hate a job in a field I used to love

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-19 23:09

What kind of job dictates what EDITOR you use?

In my job, some people use Eclipse. Some use vi. I'm the guy who uses emacs. But at least we fucking get to pick what we use.

>I write fucking j2ee shit with it... and php... god I hate it, I hat it so much...

Oh, now I understand. Saged for faggotry.

Sorry, my fingers shake sometimes when I've been scared by enterprise.

Its on windows machines, they're hyper-concerned about IP theft.

textpad

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 17:07

Oh, now I understand. Saged for faggotry.
But not actually.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 17:24

My college makes us use Eclipse for our Java class, on computers with 256 MB of RAM. It's the main reason I stopped going to class entirely. Moreso than the faggotry that is Java itself.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 17:49

What are some good alternatives to Eclipse for writing java code?

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 18:07

>>15
I use gedit, myself. Basic syntax highlighting and auto-indentation is all anyone should need.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 18:20

>>16
auto-indentation
ONE WORD

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 18:24

How about alternatives that will work on windows?

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 18:31

Only enterprise suit would leave indenting his code to a machine.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 18:31

EMACS

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 18:40

>>18
Why the fuck would you do that?

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:02

>>21
He's a Java DEVELOPER. Why do you think?

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:21

i've never used emacs before. what's the difference between emacs and notepad?
basically, why should i use it?

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:27

some people like getting RSI apparently.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:40

You have been caught trolling

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:41

>>25
I invented that meme, today.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:44

>>26
It's less of a meme than tuna fish is.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:46

>>27
YOu sir, wouldn't know a meme if it jumped out of a stinking can and smeared itself over your face.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:56

>>28
You can smear a meme, but you can't smear a fish.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 20:02

>>29
I was in subway recently I watched him SMEAR this damn tuna all over the bread for some tune-eating retard in front of me in line.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 20:05

>>30
I'll grant that you can smear a tuna salad, but not a whole tuna. Not very well, anyway.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 21:28

>>30,31
I think we need to get something straight. When you say ``tuna'', do you actually mean an actual tuna fish, or the shredded variety available in cans? Please clarify.

I stopped going to classes as well. This was after they had a conversation about everyone needing a duel core laptop with 2gb+ ram so you could program in visual studios on Vista. This of course was told to us as I'm trolling /prog/ using lynx on an ultra portable running FreeBSD. I'm in the process of dropping out to either join a linux startup or possibly assistant admin, neither of which require a degree.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-21 4:43

>>33
Holy shit, being an assistant admin doesn't require a degree? Why the fuck am I sitting in this shitty ass school doing shitwork?

Also, I need to upgrade my kernel to 7.0-RC2. Always an interesting experience.

Work is less fun.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-21 6:24

>>35

I would say worst case they are equal. The difference is you are paying to go to class where as they are paying you to go to work.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-21 6:29

Unless you live in a socialist nation where the government pays you for studying.

Enjoy your freedom.
