Enterprise poisoning

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-18 20:46

Hello /prog/, I have what I think is a grave problem.

For a long time, I've been taking a CS course which uses java as the language. Its all OOP and java and gay, and the IDE they want us to use is Eclipse.

Long story short, I think I'm being ``poisoned''.

Ever since I started doing java on a regular basis, I've become more cynical, pessimistic, and I've started programming WAY less. Something that I once loved has almost turned around. Before JAVA, I was a strict Cfag, with the occasional sepples faggottree. I even tried reading SICP, but I couldn't even get through the first chapter without putting it down, firing up eclipse, and writing some blasphemous piece of crap I can't even tell what does.

How does /prog/ deal with ENTERPRISE POISONING? Please help me, I think my life may be in danger.

This is what happens when you start to take programming languages seriously.

DONT LET THEM BREAK YOUR SOUL. USE JAVA NATIVE CODE INTERFACE TO LOAD C

Edgar Dickstrap said once:

``It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration.''.

and I grew up to be a perfectly fine programmer.

Hey! I resent that! I started out programming in BASIC,
GOTO >>8

Kosher GOTO[1] considered mostly harmless.

[1]kosher GOTO is a GOTO that directs the flow only forwards and only near the end of a program.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-19 8:08

Computed GOTO considered clever.

Yes, but where does the program end?

Ask Goedel.

The really really sad part is I'm completely serious.

I know the feeling too. My life is meaningless now.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 10:38

Congratulations! You're growing out of your toy languages and in to real ones.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 13:59

Yes, but ``real'' programming sucks. Much more fun to do it for one's own enjoyment.

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 14:11

Much like masturbation.

The really really sad part is you're going to starve to death once your parents pass away because you can't get any work with your useless academia toys.

Since when is C a toy language? I'll be honest, I haven't started trying to learn scheme since I started feeling the poison of ENTERPRISE sinking into my skin.

I think I'm thinking in objects, /prog/.

HELP ME...

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 16:04

Well, I think I'm thinking in Sepples.

im thinking in the game

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-20 19:11

I'm thinking with portals

Name: Anonymous 2008-02-21 5:47

Odd, I feel the exact opposite way. /prog/ has ruined my programming experience completely. I can't take anything seriously now, all code is imperfect in my eyes, books irritates me because they aren't SICP.

For example, the other day, I was reading a book about Cocoa and Objective-C (which isn't actually too bad). Every 5 pages, I would find myself thinking ``Fuck this ENTERPRISE bullshit'' without noticing. I mean, I already knew Java sucked before /prog/, but now, it looks like everything is shit and nothing is good enough.

Ha ha. You're not meant to take /prog/ seriously, you know. We're all just having a big joke.
