Stimulants works if you needs to write shit down and helps with tedious things you really don't want to do like reinventing the wheel. Psychedelics are nice when you're stuck on the conceptual level and you want to consider the many ways you can do things in and what would probably the most ad hoc efficient way, ABSTRACT BULLSHITE basically.
Other than that I've heard opiates are nice but those really aren't my thing. Alcohol is useless as my capabilities for logical thinking diminishes.

i used to code stoned. i'd have a stoned branch and go and off trying to implement something. i wouldnt comment anything because it all seemed so obvious at the time. then the next i had no idea what on earth i had been doing.

I coded stoned all of last semester. True about the comments part but if I could get atleast one working function in each time I got high and sat down to code, I was usually in good shape. I wrote a C-- compiler last semester this way.
