Need idea for C program on low-end device!

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 12:30

I'm looking for ideas for something to make for this embedded device. It has a 128x64px black/white LCD for output and keys for input.
Nao, I can program this is C, and I need some new, fresh idea. It has to fit in around 32k of RAM.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 12:40

fuck off go work out your own competition entry

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 12:47

I wont fuck off. This is a general request, without specifications like 'it has to be a game', 'it has to do x', as most competitions have. The size limit is a limitation of the OS.

Now, in lack of imagination, what could be an interesting problem to solve?

waahhhh win prize for me pls ;_________;

Write a Lisp system for it.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 15:50

That's a HUGE piece of powerful hardware!  Back in my day, we had to do timesharing on a system with a 4-bit address space!  We each got ONE BYTE of RAM and were HAPPY to walk uphill both ways up the sneakernet bus to access it!

Why would I possibly mean that?

Make it replay a chiptune while displaying a scroller in which you will show your love for the Sussman, like this fine example of EXPERT TYPEWRITER PROGRAMMING

For starters: FOR WHAT FUCKING CPU (or microcontroller)?

>>5
Lisp is too bloated. You're starting to sound like an enterprisefag.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 21:35

>>10
5/10. You could have padded it a bit more.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 22:50

Lisp is too bloated.
Obviously. I was joking.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 23:09

>>12
I figured, thus the blatant troll response.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 1:02

CL *is* bloated.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 1:43

Lisp can work on this.  I presume it's 32k of free RAM alongside some sort of [BI]OS to lighten the programmer's burden.  It's worked on machines smaller than that.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 1:55

>>15
Probably not CL, but that's not what I meant when I suggested Lisp. I seriously doubt you want a garbage-collected dialect with that little space. Many Lisp users using GCd dialects on memory-constrained machines would elect not to use it at all, and would just write the whole Lisp image to disk and reboot every few days instead!

Oh come on, even the Commodore 64 BASIC was garbage collected, and that had 38911 BASIC BYTES FREE.  READY.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 2:24

>>17
and the VIC 20 had 5K total RAM, with the same BASIC.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 2:53

>>17
I'm pretty sure C64 basic didn't have any garbage to collect.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 3:33

In fact, one might say the C64 was the garbage.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 3:45

lol 6/10

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 4:43

hello there. are you from /a/?

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 6:32

no.

>>23
I am.

The CPU is a Renesas (previously Hitachi) SH-3.

What about a Lua interpreter?

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-23 9:47

Strings were a garbage collected heap, with a stop-and-copy GC.

So I'm getting a urine test at the lab in the hospital. Chick was processing me, but the chick next to her smiled at me, she was staring too. I smiled back and kind of giggled because I was happy. Then she started mumbling, I was like "hmmm?" but I finally picked up on what she was saying and she said "that’s the dr that falls in love with her". I was so confused. I turned back and there was a TV behind me. She smiled at the TV and was talking about it. I was invisible. I felt so embarrassed.

Don't change these.
