Emacs. Vim is a mess of lol C with an ad-hoc scripting language tacked on. Emacs has its base written in C and its extensions in tidy elisp. And it's got viper-mode, for brain-dead keyfags.

And don't worry if it seems too light on resources for emacsfags, you can go run :(){ :|:&};: with your left-over cpu cycles - even that is better than wasting them on emacs.

When I use an editor, I don't want eight extra KILOBYTES of worthless
help screens
and cursor positioning code!  I just want an EDitor!!
Not a "viitor".  Not a "emacsitor".  Those aren't even WORDS!!!!
ED! ED! ED IS THE STANDARD!!!

Textmate > *.
Watch the screencasts.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-21 18:31

>>12
Bunch of squirrely sounding guys narrating those screencasts. And paying €40 for a buch of stuff that Emacs — hell, even Vim — does with more panache? Lol Mac.

Sorry, I already have an OS

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-21 19:05

>>17
You have a shitty OS (unless it's Emacs).

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-21 19:06

I run Emacs in Emacs

I run Emacs in Emacs in Emacs

I see you've read SICP.

Sorry, only one level of nesting is possible at the moment. The original Emacs was a set of macros for TECO, and I remember seeing a TECO implementation in Emacs Lisp, but as there's no TECO implementation in TECO Emacs, that's as deep as you can go until someone re-implements a Lisp-capable Emacs in Emacs Lisp.

You can run Emacs in Emacs term-mode, but that starts a new process for each nested Emacs, so it doesn't count.

I just tried it and this is actually pretty intense.

I run an iMac.

With BBEdit.

I was expecting "I run Emacs in Emacs in Emacs in Emacs" but you guys are too clever for me. Hah! I've only personally used Emacs once, and that was to dick around with PVC (or whatever the fuck that automated theorem prover was called). vi > emacs

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-21 21:54

You don't understand Emacs.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 3:04

OH FUCK YOU CAUGHT ME.

Also, sage.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 12:20

ANYONE YOUNGER THAN 40 CAUGHT USING EMACS SHOULD BE ASHAMED

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 13:23

ANYONE NOT YET SENILE WHO IS CAUGHT USING VIM SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 13:35

I always lock my door when using emacs.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 13:56

>>30
I bet you lock your door while fapping too — same thing.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 13:59

>>31
Using Emacs, unlike fapping, is not fun.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 14:01

>>32
My point is that it is fun, and tangentially that you're a faggot.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 14:50

>>33
My point is that you have just been trolled.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 15:28

>>34
My point is now that "lol I'm trolling" is not a valid part of any discussion.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 15:29

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 15:30

>>35
My point is now that there are no real discussions on /prog/.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-22 15:32

>>37
In that case, I counter with the point that you are unable to read subtext. /prog/ is filled with real discussions. I'm having one in this thread now, just not with you.

Are you a NIGGER?
Are you a GAY NIGGER?

If you answered "Yes" to all of the above questions, then GNAA (GAY NIGGER ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) might be exactly what you've been looking for!
