I will be off the Internet for two weeks. I am currently reading YAHT, but I'll be done on the third or fourth day of my absence. Suggest me some good programming-related things to read later (by the way, I've read SICP).

sbcl

sbcl sucks. It doesn't even have decent restarts for an undefined-function condition. You only have abort.

Use a real man's compiler, like Franz's

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-20 18:53

>>16
Why would you care about that? Don't call undefined functions. But I hear Franz is good too. Far superior to that filthy Lispworks.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-20 20:28

Franz is okay.  We bought their research version for something like $7k, and it's crazy the amount of bugs in simple things like threading and networking that we've found.  You can tell that shit hasn't been tested or even used to any significant degree.

That reminds me. OP should read Alan Kay's history of Smalltalk, as well as Ivan Sutherland's Sketchpad thesis. Both are excellent.
