You can read up on them, but unfortunantly you've missed the beat; you'll never be able to experience the joy of memes during their gestation period.
You probably won't believe me, but I've invented a few memes of my own. First, there's the forced indentation meme. Some guy posted a ``Bad things about Python" thread, which I proceeded to troll by posting ``One word, forced indenting. Thread over.''
After a while, I posted the extended version (``forced indentation of code...'') which literally spread like wildfire from then on.
There's also the ``My other car is a cdr'' meme. I created a ``Programmer's Joke" thread, where the two jokes I posted were ``My other car is a cdr'' and the dec 25/oct 31 joke. The former seems to have caught on quite well, the latter didn't do so good.
I think it was around that time someone began posting ``suave yoshi'' lisp, after someone's somethingawful forum avatar (it was, literally, a suave looking yoshi)
That's about all of the meme's I know of. There's also the Expert Programmer meme, which was based on a post about a guy writing an ansi c compiler when he was 12, etc etc... I'm sure we've all read that post and enjoyed a few laughs.
Oh, and of course there's the Touring Complete meme, ducks being touring complete, etc... I'm not sure how that one was formed.
