atmel winAVR

can anyone recommend an online guide or some tutorials for using GCC winAVR for programing atmel MCUs? I have only used PICs and coded with microchip C18. the transition is more difficult than i or thought.

How did you ever manage to write even a blinking LED program if you can't Google something that simple?

GCC being open source the documentation is too bladed. Yes I can RTFM but i dont want to read about the history of RISC microprocessors (for the 400th time) just to know how to fucking write to a register.  and the atmel data sheets suck as compared to PIC imo.

get off your high horse. we both know its at lot easier to ask someone who has been though it who can maybe steer you in the right way so you can maybe avoid making the same pitfalls. Plz go back to your BASIC crap.

It's not at all bladed.

I assume you're using AVR Studio? If yes, it will tell you what to install once you create a C project. You can't really fail there. If not, download and use it.

Actually I don't remember what I used. But I certainly didn't whine for hours on the Interweb because I was too stupid to figure out how to write to a register.
