/prog/ hardly ever talks about Smalltalk. What are your thoughts on a real, no enterprise bullshit, OO language?

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 10:11

smalltalk? in my /prog/?

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 10:16

FUCK YES

SMALLTALK

Yeah, I don't know why /prog/ doesn't talk about Smalltalk. Probably because fewer famous programmers have said quotable things about it.

In the domain of expressive languages and amazing development environments Smalltalk is Common Lisp's only real competition. Somehow, programmers, who you might expect to care about such things, don't care about that. CL has lost a lot when it comes to the latter (SLIME? Lurk moar in Genera), so Squeak is as good a reason as a person could need to check out Smalltalk. My jaw dropped when I found out you could search for methods by desired effect in Squeak.

i've been to Genera in the spring

Shit syntax is shit

You couldn't understand it, could you?

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 10:41

>>6

Yeah, you're not really funny or clever.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 10:45

>>7
I'll settle for perceptive.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 10:50

>>8

You do that. Enjoy your Smalltalk.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 10:55

I'll do that. Enjoy your Smallpenis

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 11:10

>>9
I will. Enjoy your object-obsessed programming.

lolwut

Sepples etc.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 11:22

>>13

I know what you meant. I found it odd that somehow you inferred that I used such abominations, simply because I dislike the syntax of Smalltalk.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 11:23

/prog/ is the reason why I started using the word ``Sepples''

I figured that your inability to understand ST meant you were either a toy-language fag or a OObsessedPfag (Sepples, Java, anything with objects but ObjC and Smalltalk). I don't think most of /prog/ is a FPfag in a non-ironic way, so I went with the latter.

Smalltalk is a cheap Ruby ripoff.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 12:20

I never said I didn't understand it.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 12:29

>>20
You clearly implied it.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 12:55

>>21

Apparently I did not.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 14:17

This is the worst thread on /prog/.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 19:13

Oh well. I had the best intentions, but /prog/ can't do anything but troll Python and Haskell, praise The Sussman and make BBCode jokes.

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 19:29

>>24
Well, what are your thoughts on it?

Name: Anonymous 2007-12-05 19:32

>>25

He doesn't have thoughts. He's ENTERPRISE.

Smalltalk contains as much enterprise bullshit as Java.
