A) Why would you want to, when there are at least a dozen emulators for BOTH the Nintendo and Genesis?
B) Why do you want to know?
C) Write an emulator for the Z-machine instead.
D) Make up your own virtual machine and write an emulator for it. If anything, you'll learn about how to write emulators from the experience.

When 4chan was down, I wrote an emulator for /prog/. Didn't realize 4chan was back up until 5 minutes ago.

Actually, it isn't back up. You're still posting to your emulator.
