The time of the apocololypse is near, the holy SICP has been MUDIED by our savior himself.

We must band together in these dark times for there may be salvation.

What do you say brothers of the guild?

The Knights of the Lambda Calculus must go into hiding.

Brothers, we will come together again in another life, so that the glory of the Lambda Calculus may be praised once more.

I support the cause, but I refuse to call the messiah a traitor. He must have a reason - one that I'm not enlightened enough to see - to replace Scheme by Python (and that's only for C1). I've always liked Python and fought to keep lambda - our bastion into the language - so I'm not completely disgusted, as long as the art of Scheme is not forgotten and SICP is still worshipped. I would still go to C1 and tell all these kids, "YOU STILL HAVE TO READ SICP!"

Scheme teaches you basics of computer science and programming and makes you ready to learn a real language. Python is a real language and is unsuitable for teaching purposes. Sure, you will get a job, but learning first few languages will not come with such ease, you will have to get a hang of it. SICP and Scheme makes it easy to learn new languages in ~one week.

All in all, Abelson is a traitor. I never really liked him anyway. I hope Sussman does something.

Why? He's an awesome teacher, a good talker, and wrote (together with Sussman) the book we all love. He did a lot for CS introducing that class together with Sussman, got lots of recognition for it, set a good example, created Creative Commons, promoted file sharing, and is even a founding member of the Free Software Foundation! My god, he's a fucking saint!
