Does being a programmer make you lonely?

I want to start programming in college to maybe make some video games in some sort of collaborated effort... in addition to writing software or whatever for a company. I'm wondering if this job will make my personal life suffer greatly because its so time consuming and a single person activity.

Just to elaborate, software dev isn't about hacking away at code in isolation. You generally work collabaratively in a group environment, and hence communication skills are vital within your group as well as between yourself and stakeholders.
