Does being a programmer make you lonely?

I want to start programming in college to maybe make some video games in some sort of collaborated effort... in addition to writing software or whatever for a company. I'm wondering if this job will make my personal life suffer greatly because its so time consuming and a single person activity.

I just wanted to make an MMORPG thats low scale and SNES style with some basic 3-d graphical effects.. I'm pretty decent at pixel art... would I be better off getting a programmer to do it for me?

I always figured that programming is such an important part that if you want it done right you should do it yourself.
