Yes, I am an SICP reader. So? I dont see any problem. I embraced my Satori soul long ago and I am happy together with my book (who is a cute purple soft-back!). We write a fucking lot of common lisp in and outside of the "Knights of The Lambda Calculus" club and my syntax is pretty sugary and good looking.

But thanks anyway asshole. Go and read "Sams PHP in 24 Hours" shit while I have FUN working out where I missed off a right parenthesis.

Well, duh.

Unless you have countless thousands of dollars to sink into Franz or LW, slime/emacs/sbcl is the way to go. (loleclipsewithcusp)

Unless you're a Scheme weenie, but then you have drscheme.

Actually, Acme turns out to be pretty awesome for editing Lisp code too. Run sbcl in one of its windows, write code in another. You get no built-in hyperspec lookup, but I always just switch to Firefox (press F4) and use yubnub in my search bar ("clhs loop"). There are a few things missing (like a program you can pipe your code to which will indent it and send it out stdout), but it's really very nice.

I can't get Swank to start up with slimv in my Vim. What do?

Name: Anonymous 2013-12-18 20:42

Use Emacs.

M-x package-list-packages.

C-s slime (Keep pressing C-s till you find it, then press RET).

(if it's not there it might be in MELPA or marmalade or whatever so add those (C-h v package-archives to find out how or just google it))

Now mark it for instalation with i

Then press x and answer y at the prompt.

Now M-x ielm and do

(require 'slime)
(setq inferior-lisp-program "sbcl") ;or whatever
(slime-setup '(slime-fancy slime-banner inferior-slime))
(setq slime-net-coding-system 'utf-8-unix)

;; If you're using paredit and redshank (which you should be)
(add-hook 'slime-mode-hook 'paredit-mode)
(add-hook 'slime-mode-hook 'redshank-mode)
(add-hook 'slime-repl-mode-hook 'paredit-mode)
(add-hook 'slime-repl-mode-hook 'redshank-mode)
(add-hook 'slime-repl-mode-hook
          (lambda () (define-key slime-repl-mode-map
                       (read-kbd-macro paredit-backward-delete-key)
                       nil)))
(add-hook 'slime-inferior-process-start-hook 'paredit-mode)
(add-hook 'slime-inferior-process-start-hook 'redshank-mode)

Then put all that in your init.el

then M-x slime.

On my configuration whenever I update the slime package I have to delete it and install it again explicitly. I think this has something to do with when Emacs byte compiles it or something I screwed up idk, I haven't looked into it cause the stupid thing to do works in this case.

A good Emacs tutorial for newbies.

Ignore what he writes about color schemes. Only hipsters use anything other than the default
