Fail, since you're meant to use ``proper quotes'' in the thread title. I would know; I invented this meme.

It's impossible to describe the proper pronounciation of irssi in english terms. But, read "irssi" as though it were IPA, and you're pretty close -- finnish pronounciation matches IPA outside a few exceptions which aren't found in "irssi".

Hello, Mr. American. I have a feeling your knowledge of geography needs some improvement! Please search for ``Finland'' on http://www.google.com, do some reading and refrain from making baseless statements. Thank you!

It's a little known fact that Linus programmed the original Linux kernel with just rocks and sticks, and sometimes, if he was very lucky, some potatoes he managed to sneak aside during meals.
It's how he spent the time when he, after his drunken and unemployed father had beat him, would be locked into the dark, damp cellar.

What's so hard about describing it in English terms? It sounds like "earsy" to me.

Name: Anonymous 2007-09-13 3:49 ID:Heaven

>>37
That would be ``iirsi'' or ``irsi'' in Finnish.

Name: Anonymous 2007-09-13 4:04 ID:Dph9T8WO

>>38
So what's the difference? Are you sure you know what "earsy" sounds like in proper midwestern English (with the s not pronounced as the z you expect)?

Name: Anonymous 2007-09-13 4:45 ID:Heaven

>>39
In Finnish, letters don't slur the same way they do in English. The difference between `i' and `ii' or `s' and `ss' is very important.

Name: Anonymous 2007-09-13 5:29 ID:y93sqZ7m

I pronounce it the same way as IRC.
