so school's in session again and such. I got my textbook for this concepts of programming languages class and it was pretty fucking win, comprehensive with regard to features and models and bringing a lot of languages into the fold like haskell, ml, scheme, prolog, etc. so I go to the class feeling good about the whole thing, the professor's pretty cool I guess,
and then someone asks what languages we'll be working with.
"Java. And more Java."
FUCK.
happily, though, some of the fail is negated by someone bringing up ruby in some context and the teacher saying fuck it let's do something different. So maybe less Java than initially thought. But still, ugh.
You are an idiot if you care about what language they use to teach you.

You are an idiot if you're down with Java. Unless you're hoping to learn OO, and only OO. Hell, Java doesn't even include loops! Enjoy iterating with objects.

You are an idiot if you don't. Of course one wouldn't care much about Pascal vs. C, but Java vs Scheme? Visual Basic vs Haskell? Fortran vs Python?

Java doesn't even do OO properly. It's a terrible language for pretty much anything.

formal syntax, grammars, parsing, binding, typing, data types, subprograms, control structures, etc. etc. etc.
I'm sure it's somewhat learnable in Java but seriously why would anyone want to learn all of that stuff in Java.
