In the OSI model, what is the difference between OSI Layer 5 (Session layer) and Layer 7 (Application layer)?

What is Open System Intercourse and why should I care?

The session layer may manage one or more application layer protocols over time during a single session between two nodes.  Max 1 session between 2 nodes, although that session may use may presentation layer or application layer protocols over that time.
