Angled brackets < > in C++ are used when you are sending a datatype as an argument. The reason you have a special syntax just for sending datatpyes as arguments is because the compiler needs to know what datatype everything is in a line of code before it can compile it. The actual code for the implementation of queue<T>, e.g.:
isn't compiled once, it is compiled seperately for each datatype as the compiler needs it. And so classes like queue<int> and queue<char*> are completely distinct classes.
