Hello, I know nothing about programming. Period. I do not want to take any classes or anything, so I thought I might just start reading on the Internets. To put the question simply: where do I start? I was thinking of buying a book about C++, what say you?

C++ is hideously complicated and will cause you to fail in your attempt to learn to program. Learn a sane language such as C or one of the scripting languages, eg Python or Ruby (but not perl or php) and then later, much later, if you really feed the need, you can learn C++.

It depends, some people will prefer to learn an easy language such as BASIC some people would rather learn assembler which is fucking complicated or some people will learn JAVA first ( LOL ) but I suggest you to learn C and then learn C++ then you will have good knowledges in programming and you will be able to lurk informations by yourself and choose what you want to learn.

I found that for you : http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial.html

Pascal to get the basics, move on as quickly as possible once you can code algorithms (better if you can also come up with them) to Python or C, then C or Python, then Scheme, then you're done.
